Beast of Reincarnation Yellow Key Door — It Doesn’t Exist

Updated August 11, 2026 · Facts cross-checked against the sources listed below

Stop looking — there is no yellow door. The yellow key has exactly one use: alongside the red and blue keys it unlocks the sealed gate at Nushi’s Lair in Subcity 03. It opens no optional building, no side room, no strongbox. Several guides say it opens a locked building north of the river; players who have combed the map say that building isn’t there.

What the Yellow Key Actually Does

It fills the third slot on the sealed gate at Nushi’s Lair, Subcity 03 — the gate that opens the path to Rangifer and ends Chapter 1. That is its entire function. Once the gate is open the key has no further use.

Getting it is a two-step chain, which is part of why players expect more from it than they get:

  1. Go to the cave north of Tailwater Village and defeat the Grizzly Malefact, which drops the Tailwater Key.
  2. Use the Tailwater Key on the inner door behind where it stood.
  3. Talk to the guardian inside. The yellow key comes from dialogue, not from a chest or a pickup.

Full routes for all three keys are in the key locations guide.

Why Everyone Thinks There’s a Door

Two things combine, and neither is your fault.

First, the game sets the expectation. The red key opens an optional door. The blue key opens an optional door. You have three keys, so the third should open something — and the yellow key is the one that took the most work to get, sitting behind a boss and a second key. It feels like it owes you a room.

Second, the guides say so. At least one widely-read guide states the yellow key opens “an optional locked building north of the river”, and that line has been reproduced across other sites and into search summaries. So players search, get told the door exists, and go back out to look for it again.

What none of those guides do is tell you where the door is. No screenshot, no map marker, no campsite to navigate from — just the assertion. Meanwhile, on the Steam discussion board, one player asking where it was got a run of replies from people who had gone looking:

“the yellow key is never used for anything outside of unlocking the boss door.”

“i ran through the map 3-4 times, im pretty sure there is no yellow key door.”

“It gets even more troll when you google for an answer, and one of the front page search tells you it opens an optional building. No it doesnt exist.”

How solid is that? It is player consensus rather than an official statement, and proving a door doesn’t exist is inherently harder than proving one does player reports, not an official source. But the balance of evidence is one-sided: several players searched specifically for it and came back empty, while nobody claiming the door exists has ever produced a location. If you find one, we want the screenshot and we’ll rewrite this page.

The Doors That Are Real

Since you came here hunting a locked door, here are the two that actually exist in the Ogouchi Buffer Zone — both with a strongbox behind them:

KeyOptional door
RedA locked door in Abandoned Village
BlueA cavern storage door the game tracks as its own objective, plus the locked door by the warehouse east of River Fork camp
YellowNone — the Nushi’s Lair gate only

Of the zone’s 22 strongboxes, exactly two sit behind key doors. If your collection count is short, the missing boxes are code or sequence chests, not a hidden yellow room — see strongbox codes.

Go Fight the Boss

If you have all three keys, you are done with Chapter 1’s collectible chain. Take them to the sealed gate at Nushi’s Lair and go beat Rangifer — he’s weak to Flame, and there is nothing else in the zone the yellow key is keeping from you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the yellow key door in Beast of Reincarnation?

There isn’t one. The yellow key is used only on the sealed Nushi’s Lair gate in Subcity 03, together with the red and blue keys. No separate yellow door exists anywhere in the Ogouchi Buffer Zone.

What does the yellow key open?

One thing: its slot on the three-key gate at Nushi’s Lair, which leads to Rangifer. That is the whole of its purpose.

Why do guides say the yellow key opens a locked building?

One widely-read guide states it opens an optional locked building north of the river, and that claim has been copied around and picked up by search summaries. No guide making the claim gives a location you can actually walk to, and players who searched specifically for it report finding nothing.

Do the red and blue keys open extra doors?

Yes, and this is the reason the yellow one feels like it should. The red key opens a door in Abandoned Village and the blue key opens a cavern storage door plus a locked door by the warehouse east of River Fork camp. Each has a strongbox behind it. Two optional key doors in the zone, not three.

Is the Tailwater Key the same as the yellow key?

No. The Tailwater Key opens the inner door inside the Grizzly Malefact’s cave north of Tailwater Village. Behind that door you talk to a guardian who gives you the yellow key. It is a step on the way, not one of the three gate keys.

Am I missing a strongbox if I never find a yellow door?

No. The zone has 22 strongboxes and two of them sit behind key doors — the red one and the blue one. Nothing in the count is waiting behind a yellow door.
