Beast of Reincarnation Cooking — All 25 Recipes & Books
Updated August 7, 2026 · Facts cross-checked against the sources listed below
Two Different Cooking Systems
Don’t confuse these — they do completely different things:
- Campfire auto-cooking. Stand at a campsite and raw meat and fish in your pack are grilled automatically. Eat from the Battle Pack with down on the d-pad. This only fills hunger.
- Kagura’s meals. Only possible aboard the Cleanse Walker. These are the ones that grant stats.
And a third thing that isn’t cooking at all: rations (field rations, hard candy, Koo treats) refill hunger with no stat effect. You get a free restock every time you set out, scaling with Kagura’s rapport.
Why hunger matters: while the wheat-ear bar has anything in it, Emma and Koo slowly regenerate HP outside combat. Empty it and regeneration stops entirely. They have separate hunger bars.
The Full Loop
- Find or buy a cook book — a “BOOK” icon shows on your map when one is near.
- Give it to Kagura as a Cooking Research project. Research costs no Amber and no ingredients; it advances passively as you play.
- Finish the matching Grow Research for the ingredients, if the dish needs it.
- Choose Rest Until Departure at the bed (only works after midday).
- The stat bonus lands the next morning, on both Emma and Koo.
Each dish has three research tiers — Normal, Superior, Ultimate — researched separately for progressively bigger numbers. How many research options Kagura can offer at once is gated by Electronic Brains (33 in the game), which raise the Cleanse Walker’s Calculations level. Completing any Cooking Research also raises her rapport.

A naming trap worth knowing: the book for Soya Beans is called “Normal Recipe: Boiled Beans” in-game, so searching your inventory for “Soya” won’t find it.
Permanent or Temporary? The Honest Answer
This is genuinely unsettled. Three guides describe meals as permanent stat increases — one explicitly says varying your diet maximises permanent gains, which only makes sense if they accumulate. Two others describe them as temporary boosts that last until you swap meals. Nobody has published a test that resolves it, so we’re not going to pick a side for you.
What every source does agree on, and what you can act on:
- The bonus applies the morning after resting, not on eating.
- A first-time dish is worth substantially more than a repeat — confirmed by three independent sources.
- Therefore: eat your way through different dishes rather than re-cooking the same convenient one.
- Bonuses apply to Emma and Koo together, at whichever research tier you’ve unlocked.
Ingredients and the Farm
Four supply lines, and the last two are the ones people miss:
- World pickups — rice and fish respawn as you progress; Koo marks food on the map.
- Merchants — the Ancient Golem trader and zone wandering merchants.
- Grow Chamber — plant Crop Seedlings, harvest ingredients. Basic Guide research adds +1 yield, Advanced Guide adds +2 ⚠ single source.
- Incubator — hatch a Fertilized Egg into a chicken for an unlimited egg supply, feeding Fried Egg, Omelette, Egg Onigiri and Meat Omelette. Poultry has its own research line. Full details in the eggs guide.
Both facilities gain slots from Facility Modules and Generator Devices, and Kagura harvests crops and eggs automatically. One ingredient stays a mystery: Water is required for White Rice and even has its own Grow Research entry, but no guide has documented where it comes from.
The Gourmand Trophy
“Obtain every book on both cooking and crops” — 25 books. Two details save a lot of wasted effort:
- Only the base Normal books count. Superior and Ultimate tiers unlocked via research are irrelevant to the trophy.
- You never have to cook anything. The trophy checks ownership of books, not meals eaten.
Nothing is missable — you can sweep for books after the credits before starting NG+. Re-picking up a book you already own in NG+ converts it to Amber ⚠ single source.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you unlock cooking in Beast of Reincarnation?
Cooking becomes available once Kagura wakes up on the Cleanse Walker during the main story. She stands by the weapon workbench and offers three options: Cooking Research, Grow Research and Food Production Settings. No guide has pinned the exact chapter number — it follows the flashback sequence.
Are food stat boosts permanent?
Sources disagree. Three guides describe meals as permanent stat increases that stack as you vary your diet; two describe them as temporary boosts lasting until you eat something else. What all of them agree on is that the bonus applies the morning after you rest, and that a first-time dish gives noticeably more than a repeat.
What is the best recipe in Beast of Reincarnation?
Supreme Curry and Supreme Onigiri, at HP +54, DEF +2, SP +6 and Crit +4. Neither can be found in the world — they come from talking to Kagura at rapport ranks 8 and 10.
How do I get the Gourmand trophy?
Collect every cooking and crop book — 25 in total. Crucially you only need the base Normal version of each book; the Superior and Ultimate tiers you unlock through research do not count. You never have to actually cook anything.
What is the difference between meals and rations?
Meals are cooked by Kagura on the Cleanse Walker and give stat bonuses. Rations — field rations, hard candy, Koo treats — only refill the hunger bar and give no stats. You restock rations automatically each time you leave, and the amount scales with Kagura’s rapport.
Why can I not cook a recipe I already have?
Many dishes also require the Grow Research for their ingredients to be finished. White Rice needs both the Basic and Advanced guides for Rice and Water; Omelette needs Poultry, Tomato and Potato lines. The book alone is not enough.
Where do I find crop seedlings?
Four are in the Ogouchi Buffer Zone around Tailwater Village — one in a house, one in a small cave in the rice paddies, one in the highest paddy near the Path of the Sealed Lair marker, and one in the yellow key cave room. Later zones add potato, tomato, biwafruit, apple and carrot seedlings, while wheat, lettuce and strawberry seedlings are sold by merchants for 2,040 to 3,240 Amber.
