Beast of Reincarnation Rapport — Koo & Kagura Guide

Rapport Is Not Koo’s Level — Read This First
Two systems get confused constantly because both involve Koo getting stronger:
| System | Cap | Raised by | Trophy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rapport | Rank 10 | Petting, feeding, showering, talking, research | Closest Companion |
| Level | Level 100 | Combat experience | The Perfect Pal |
You need both for the platinum, but they progress independently — grinding enemies will never max your rapport, and petting Koo all day will never level him.
Raising Koo’s Rapport
- Stroke him. Walk up from the front, take the Talk prompt, pick Stroke. Unlocks after the Rangifer fight and the flashback. ⚠ cooldown disputed One guide says once per day, another says once per completed quest.
- Treats. Press down on the d-pad to open the quick menu and feed him — cheapest repeatable gain.
- Keep him fed. Regular food that fills his hunger bar gives a smaller bump. Emma eating usually feeds Koo at the same time.
- Shower. The shower room by the bed on the Cleanse Walker — requires stored water.
- Deep talks. The first one also pops the Man’s Best Friend trophy.
- Finish his research. Koo’s Item Research and Skill Research projects both grant rapport when they complete.
You can’t lose a rank. If Koo goes down in a fight you lose progress inside the current rank only — the ranks themselves are permanent. There is also no gift system in this game, despite what the genre might lead you to expect.
Raising Kagura’s Rapport
- Talk to her every time you’re aboard — and specifically before a big boss fight, which triggers extra scenes.
- Complete Cooking Research — hand over cook books you find (see cooking guide).
- Complete Grow Research — plant Crop Seedlings in the Grow Chamber.
- Hatch eggs in the Incubator (see Fertilized Eggs).
She can only run one research project at a time. Switching mid-way doesn’t lose progress, but only a completed project grants rapport — so don’t leave three half-finished.
What Each Side Gives You
Koo: more skill, item and charm slots. The item slots matter more than they sound — anything you slot there, Koo uses automatically without you issuing a command, so a healing item in a slot is a free extra heal per fight. Skill slots enable things like laying mines, taunting to pull aggro, and throwing recovery items. Higher rapport also widens the pool of skills you can research.
Kagura: the higher her rank, the more rations you automatically carry when leaving the Cleanse Walker. Two ranks give named rewards:
| Rank | Reward | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Rapport 8 | Supreme Curry recipe | HP +54, DEF +2, SP +6, Crit +4 |
| Rapport 10 | Supreme Onigiri recipe | HP +54, DEF +2, SP +6, Crit +4 |
These are among the strongest meals in the game and cannot be found anywhere in the world — maxing Kagura is the only way to get them. That makes her track meaningfully more rewarding than most players assume.
Rapport Trophies
| Trophy | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Closest Companion (silver) | Maximum rapport with Koo |
| Bestie (silver) | Maximum rapport with Kagura |
| Man’s Best Friend (bronze) | First deep talk with Koo |
| Knowing Me, Knowing You (bronze) | First deep talk with Kagura |
| Snack Time (bronze) | Feed Koo a treat once |
| Busy Paws (bronze) | Make items with Koo 30 times |
| The Perfect Pal (silver) | Koo reaches Level 100 — not rapport |
Full platinum route in the trophy guide. Don’t save rapport for a cleanup pass — spread the interactions across the whole playthrough, because the daily-ish cooldowns mean you physically cannot rush it at the end.
The Efficient Base Routine
Every time you dock at the Cleanse Walker, run the same loop: check Koo’s research, pet and feed him, talk to Kagura, check the Grow Chamber, spend skill points, upgrade gear at the workbench, eat a meal, then rest to depart. That covers both rapport tracks and every time-gated system in one pass.
Research is the passive half of rapport, and it advances by playing — exploring new areas, defeating Golems and Nushi, talking to Keepers, finding hidden weapons and books. Higher-tier projects take longer, so start them before you head out rather than when you return.
What Isn’t Known Yet
No source has published the per-rank breakdown — how many points each interaction is worth, the threshold for each rank, or exactly how many slots open at which rank. That’s because the game never shows the numbers: there is no visible point counter, only the bar. We’re not going to invent a table for it. Similarly, no named reward has been documented for Koo at Rank 10 beyond the trophy itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you increase rapport with Koo in Beast of Reincarnation?
Stroke him at the Cleanse Walker or in the field, feed him treats with the down d-pad, keep his hunger bar topped up, use the shower on the Cleanse Walker, have deep talks, and complete his Item and Skill Research projects. Resting at campsites also counts.
What is the max rapport level in Beast of Reincarnation?
Rank 10 for both Koo and Kagura. Reaching maximum rapport with Koo earns the Closest Companion trophy; doing the same with Kagura earns Bestie.
How do you pet Koo?
Approach him from the front until a Talk prompt appears, then choose Stroke from the interaction menu. It only becomes available after you beat the first boss, Rangifer, and watch the flashback that follows.
Does rapport go down if Koo is knocked out?
No. Being downed in combat only drains progress within your current rank — you never lose a rank you have already earned. Four separate guides confirm this.
Is rapport the same as Koo’s level?
No, and mixing them up is the most common mistake. Koo has a separate level that caps at 100 and earns The Perfect Pal trophy. Rapport caps at Rank 10 and earns Closest Companion. Levelling one does not raise the other.
What does rapport actually unlock?
For Koo, additional skill, item and charm slots — items placed in his slots get used automatically without a command — and a wider pool of researchable skills. For Kagura, more rations when you set out, plus the Supreme Curry recipe at Rank 8 and Supreme Onigiri at Rank 10.
How do you raise rapport with Kagura?
Talk to her on the Cleanse Walker (especially before a major boss, which triggers extra scenes), and complete her Cooking Research and Grow Research projects. Hatching eggs counts too.
